Corruption Is A Murderous Tool – John Mahama

Mahama

Former President John Mahama has called for estate surveyors and valuers to seek to improve asset valuation in order to combat this damaging occurrence. He has defined corruption as a tool of murder given that it can prevent citizens from receiving life-saving care or infrastructure.

According to John Mahama, experts that violate their professional oaths, such as estate surveyors and valuers, promote or allow subpar construction projects like bridges and buildings, which invariably result in the deaths of the individuals who utilize them.

The Special Guest at the 53rd Annual Conference of the Nigeria Institution of Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) with the theme “Asset Valuation as a Global Anti-Corruption Tool: The Nigeria Experience” gave these remarks today, June 22, 2023, at Illorin in Kwara State.

“Because it can result in the loss of life owing to the loss of essential public infrastructure and services, corruption can be referred to as an instrument of murder. Surveyors, Architects, and Engineers who approve faulty infrastructure projects, such as roads, bridges, buildings, and trains, may cause deadly accidents that result in loss of life, the expert said.

Then, he exhorted the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers to adopt practical measures to enhance their performance in order to combat corruption, which will enable Nigeria to reclaim its proper position as an economic powerhouse in Africa.

The Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers must also lead initiatives to improve access to real-time data, increase the usage of technology for online land and real estate services, and create pertinent legislation for property management. Asset valuation will solidify in Nigeria with the leadership and dedication of the NIESV in the hopes that the behemoth of West Africa will rise up and soar like the eagle that commands its fellow countrymen to obey, he added.
