Okyenhene Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin has called on the citizenry to fulfill their tax obligations to enable government embarked on developmental projects.
Statistics from the Finance Ministry indicate that out of six million potential taxpayers in Ghana, only 1.5 million made up 1.36 million employees have registered with Ghana Revenue Authority to honour their tax obligations as at 2018.
Okyenhene Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori believes this must change.
“The attitude I am talking about is simple, let us all parents and everybody to know how to pay taxes, we have to pay taxes to have the revenue so that the minister of education will have enough money to do the things that they are doing “.
Okyenhene however called for judicious use of the taxpayers money through effective decentralization.
“Everywhere I have been, every story I have read, citizens do pay taxes, but when you pay taxes you also want to see your tax cedi working, the best way we can measure that is, if we decentralize and keep it small here, we can then visualized, we can then investigate what our tax cedi is doing for the community from which we come from”.
Okyenhene said this when speaking at the 85th Anniversary Celebration of Abuakwa State College under the theme; ” Sustaining 85 Years Of Quality Education: The Stakeholder Factor”.
