I’m not an engineer; don’t bother me with your road issues – NPP MP tells constituents

The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Nhyiaeso Constituency, Hon Kennedy Kankam has said he cannot be bothered about a collapsed bridge that has cut some residents of the Patasi Electoral Area from its adjoining communities because he is not an engineer.

In an interview with Kumasi-based Angel FM, the first time MP said the fact that he has been elected by the people to represent their interest in parliament does not mean they should run to him with every trivial issue.

Some residents of Patasi who had their houses flooded following a heavy downpour last week has threatened to vote ‘skirt and blouse” in the 2020 election because their MP has failed to attend to their plight and have told them that he cannot do anything about the flooding situation because they are “deviant and have built on waterways”.

Hon Kennedy Kankam said he is reliably informed by the Urban Roads Department that the residents intentionally damaged the road and fled when the police went after them to arrest them.

“I’m not an engineer so they can’t ask me anything about their roads because my intervention would be immaterial; they destroyed the road themselves so they should go to the Urban Roads Department; they can’t do whatever they like in this country”, Hon. Kankam fumed.

The worried landlords in the area have expressed disappointment for voting for Hon. Kennedy Kankam to become their MP and have vowed to vote against him if dares stand for the post again in 2020.

The Assemblyman for the Patasi Electoral Area, Hon. Patrick Appiagyei who also spoke in an interview with Angel FM accused the MP of hoarding his share of the MPs Common Fund while his constituents are suffering.

The Nhiaeso Constituency is home to some of the most elite in society, having a lot of so-called “first class” communities, but ironically has some of the poorest roads in the Kumasi Metropolis.

A fortnight ago, residents of Ahodwo-Daban vowed to demonstrate against Hon Kennedy Kankam over the poor nature of their roads.

The completion of the Ahodwo-Daban-Sokoban Road is in limbo as the contractor, Kofi Job Ltd has disembarked all its equipment and left the site for months now.

Residents in those area say they have lost hope in authorities and have also lamented over the silence of their MP on the development.
