Beneficiaries of the Nation Builders Corps this morning took to the streets to demonstrate against the government over the non-payment of their 10 months allowances.
In Accra on Thursday, August 18, the NABCO trainees held placards which read, “NABCO trainee’s lives matter”, “pay us our allowance Mr President”, NABCO workers are suffering”. The trainees told the media that they will continue to protest till their allowances are given to them.
Dannes Opoku Katakyie, President of NABCO trainees Association said they have resorted to a demonstration since all efforts to get authorities to give them their allowances have proved unsuccessful.
He said some of their members are either on their sick beds or have passed away since they couldn’t pay their medical bills.
“We are here today because we planned this event, you the media men know the times of press releases that have come out, the number of times we have appealed to the government to pay our outstanding arrears, which has amounted to 10 good months.”
“We are going to match to the independence square to have our picketing where we are going to expect the vice president, Dr Mahamudu Bawumiah to show up and if he doesn’t show up, we will match to the Jubilee House.”
