Nana Addo Approves RTI Bill

President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has given his assent to the Right to Information act.

In a brief event the president of Ghana had at the jubilee house it all ended that, the law which was sent to the Parliament house to be passed on 29th March, 2019 to be endorsed by the president has been done.

In a post Ghanawish.com monitored, the this is what the President said

” I gave assent to the Right to Information Act, at a brief event at Jubilee House, the seat of the nation’s presidency.”

He there expressed how happy he is for this law to be enacted in his tenure office

“I am happy that deliberations on the RTI Bill were concluded in my time as President of the Republic, and in the time of the 7th Parliament”. He said

About Right To Information Act:

The RTI Act should enhance the quality of governance of our country, and provide a critical tool in the fight against corruption in public life.

The Right to Information (RTI) Bill was passed on 26 March 2019 by the Parliament of Ghana, awaiting the President’s signature. [1] Prior to its passage, various stakeholders believed the delay in passing the bill into law was to allow exemptions of certain vital information bordering around government policies which is they intend to conceal from the public (Akoto, 2012). source [2]. This bill is to enable citizens to hold government accountable to ensure that there is a high level of transparency in governance of the country.
