Mahama’s Popularity Likely To Fail NDC In 2024 – Boateng Gyan

A former National Organiser of the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) has admonished the NDC to weigh its options with the obvious candidature of former President Mahama ahead of the 2024 Presidential elections.

Speaking on Ghana Kasa on Kasapa, the leading Member of the NDC said if presenting a new candidate will enable the party to avoid all the obvious criticisms about Mahama’s candidature then so be it.

“You can’t dismiss the barrage of questions Ghanaians are likely to ask in the run-up to the 2024 elections, whether Mahama will do anything different from what he did during his tenure.

“We can’t afford to blow our chances because we’re stuck to a particular person,” he told host Bonohene Baffuor Awuah.

Meanwhile, the Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yaw Buaben Asamoa says the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) will make history to win the 2024 elections.

This according to him, is despite the Economic Intelligence Unit(EIU’s) prediction of an NDC victory in the next elections.

A statement issued by the National Communications Director of the NPP, Buaben Asamoa on the back of the EIU’s report said: “given that Mahama is already the putative candidate, the EIU can comfortably say “we told you so” when the NPP breaks the eight…”

The EIU in its report cited the economic crunch, poor infrastructure and deep-rooted corruption and high employment levels under the current government as reasons for its conclusion that the opposition stands a better chance of winning the 2024 elections albeit with a fresh candidate other than former President Mahama.

“Our baseline forecast is that ongoing public dissatisfaction with the slow pace of improvements in governance—such as infrastructure development, job creation and easing of corruption—will trigger anti-incumbency factors and push the electorate to seek a change. The NDC, therefore, stands a reasonable chance of winning the 2024 elections”, parts of the EIU report said.

The development comes in the wake of reports that former Governor of the Central Bank who is also a former Finance Minister, Dr Kwabena Duffuor is lacing his boot to contest in the flagbearer race of the opposition party.
