9 UEW Students Die In Sunday Dawn Crash At Asuboi

Nine passengers, reported to be University of Education, Winneba (UEW) students, died in an accident near Asuboi in the Eastern Region on Sunday morning.

A Hyundai universe commercial bus with the registration number AK 324-22 collided with a 40-footer container laden with wood in the accident.

The bus was allegedly bringing students from Sunyani to Accra, but when it arrived at a part of the Asuboi route, the driver failed to notice traffic ahead and was found napping.

After a previous accident, he collided with a 40-footer container loaded with woods that had fallen partially on the road.

Eight people died on the spot, and one died later at the Suhum Government Hospital, where the injured were taken.

DSP Ebenezer Tetteh, the Eastern Regional Officers Command’s Public Relations Officer, said the police are working to remove the accident vehicles from the road.
