Dear Ghana Police Service @GhPoliceService,
As concerned and worried citizens we have taken notice of your assurance that the 40ft container found to be packed with loads of ammunition is nothing to worry about because the owner has all the requisite permits to engage in that.
Indeed, this cant be allowed to just go without many other questions;
1. At a time when tensions appear high politically, bearing in mind we are entering election year next year, what at all could have triggered a perceived high demand for weapons that a dealer would want to ship in an entire 40ft container in 2019?
2. Is this the first time weapons of such quantity are being shipped in by a single dealer, if not why then was an alarm raised about this?
a) How well have you monitored this dealer, his books or records on how he sold out his past wares?
b) Should we not be worried if there is high demand for weapons in a country of 25million citizens, largely youthful?
3. WHO is this dealer and WHERE is his shop, we don’t want to believe the fellow sells from the comfort of under his bed in his bedroom?
4. Sincerely, we are all aware of the Emile Short Commission’s work and how persons were recruited into the various state security agencies without any adequate training talk less of qualification [Double] yet they were handling deadly assault rifles in Ayawaso, how sure are we that these weapons wont eventually end up in the same wrong hands because we know many of the likes of Double are in our security services?
5. A government that found it prudent to place a ban on excavators [ an infantile approach to fighting galamsey] never found it wise to place a ban or limitation on arms import at this time in order to guarantee the safety of the citizens?
6. If indeed the Ministry of Interior gave all the approvals, etc, WHY at all did the entire security operatives at our port not know about this in order to ready themselves for it?
7. Is this a further confirmation that Ghanaians are now INSECURE under this government and therefore there has been an overwhelming increase in the acquisition of weapons for self protection?
8. Is it also not possible that these weapons are the very ones procured by land-guards and galamsey site operators who come into exchanges with our task-force, the operation vanguard team?
9. Frankly, Ghanaians are not convinced yet, there is high suspicion of political inclination to this and one wonders if persons said to be human rights activists, etc, easily get so corrupted with power they will do anything and everything to hold on to the power even if it requires seeing our beautiful Ghana in flames?
10. Please do us the honours of giving us detailed information on this shipment, already [decade old] records tell us that over 2million illegal weapons are in the wrong hands, and that alone should be a cause of worry to you.
