In the history of Ghana’s democratic governance, the primary opposition, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has been described as opponents of excellent national policy.
Since 2000, the party has been accused of opposing several of the government New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) policy interventions, despite the beneficial outcomes of their execution.
As a result, Deputy Majority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has asked Ghanaians to ignore the NDC’s disparaging comments and rally behind the Akufo-Addo-led government.
Speaking at Government Town Hall meeting on the E-levy in the Eastern Regional capital, Koforidua, Hon. Afenyo-Markin mentioned the introduction of communication tax, the NHIS, free SHS, Planting for Food and Jobs, restoration of teachers and nurses allowances as some of the policies implemented by the NPP which were earlier chastised by the opposition NDC.
But according to him, all the above-mentioned policies and many others have been successfully implemented by the NPP, serving all Ghanaians no matter one’s political affiliation.
Linking it to the e-levy issue, the Deputy majority leader insisted that the introduction of the electronic tax will go a long way to support the government budget in executing the many ongoing projects and policies.
