Government Spent Ghc32 Million On Covid-19 Meetings And Conferences In 2021 – Felix Kwakyi

Felix Ofosu Kwakye, a former Deputy Minister of Communication in the Mahama administration, has revealed that the government of Ghana paid GHS 32 million on Covid-19 Meetings and Conferences in the fiscal year 2021.

On Tuesday, December 14, 2021, the NDC’s spokesperson revealed this revelation at a panel discussion on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana show.

He stated that this is included in the budget for 2022, which is presently being debated in Parliament. Minority members of Parliament’s Health Committee discovered this as part of the 2021 health expenditure and expressed alarm at the committee level during their thorough examination of the budget for 2022.

This, according to Mr Felix Ofosu Kwakye, explains why the minority in Parliament should be encouraged to continue to scrutinize the government, rather than being accused of obstructing it, as the Asantehene, Otumfuor Osei Tutu II, recommended over the weekend.

“The people of Ghana would not be aware of the squandering of their few resources in the manner that this government is doing if they [minority] had not done this.

“Rather than accusing the minority of disrupting government operations, I believe the minority should be encouraged to do more to safeguard the public purse, as President Akufo-promise Addo’s has shown to be a huge hoax.

“Indeed, he [President Akufo-Addo] has exposed the public purse to widespread and systemic corruption, and he is leading the charge. So I don’t believe the minority has irritated anyone. After mismanaging the economy despite having all the riches that the Ghanaian people have bestowed on them, the Ghanaian government is determined to suffocate the Ghanaian people with excessive taxation and harsh fiscal policies “..
