A bench warrant has been issued by the Sekondi High Court for the arrest of the Member of Parliament for Jomoro.
The High Court’s commercial section issued an arrest order for the lawmaker for disobeying the court over dual citizenship.
The warrant was issued because Dorcas Affo-Toffey failed to show evidence of her Ivorian citizenship renunciation, according to the presiding judge, Her Ladyship Sedina Agbemeve.
The court had previously ordered the NDC MP to show documents proving her allegation that she abandoned her Ivory Coast citizenship before running for office in Ghana.
Dorcas Affo-Toffey, on the other hand, appealed the Sekondi High Court’s decision, which required her to present documentation of her renounced dual citizenship in court.
Justice Dr. Richmond Osei Kyere of the Sekondi High Court “wrongly exercised its discretion in ordering the Appellant [Mrs. Affo-Toffey] to produce her certificate of renunciation of Ivorian Citizenship or any document evidencing renunciation of Ivorian Citizenship to when the Petitioner failed to establish the necessity for the production of the certificate of renunciation of Ivorian Citizenship to when the Pet.
