Bus Carrying Police Band Crashes

Following an accident on the Aperede-Somanya route in the Eastern Region, three officers from the Eastern Regional Police Command were transferred to the Koforidua Regional Hospital for intensive care.

They were among 17 members of the Command’s band on an official trip from Koforidua to Somanya on a Mercedes Benz Sprinter Bus.

However, a situational report claims that the bus driver, Kofi Asare, failed to brake while descending the Aperede hills.

As a result of the collision, all passengers and crew members on board were injured to varying degrees.

They were all brought to Somanya’s Atua Government Hospital for treatment, but the three were later transferred to Koforidua’s Central Hospital.

DCOP Johnson Oyirifi Akrofi, the Eastern Regional Police Commander, as well as Operations Commander Chief Superintendent Raymond Erzuah and Staff Officer DSP George Mills, visited the victims at the two hospitals.

They are believed to be improving as a result of treatment. The driver, who is 31 years old, has been detained as a suspect.
