Angry Road Workers Clash With Police; Commander Pelted With Stones

Angry workers from Shimizu Dai-Nippon JV, a road construction business working on National Trunk Road which runs from Assin Fosu to Assin Praso, attacked ACP Augustine Luguyare, the Assin Fosu Divisional Police Commander.

They were demonstrating for improved working conditions and pay on Wednesday.

According to Yaw Boagyan of the EIB Network Central Regional Correspondent, during the demonstration, irate workers blocked the road to prevent commuters from utilizing the Assin Fosu – Assin Praso section.

Angry demonstrators began throwing stones and other objects at police officers as they attempted to dismantle the barriers.

According to reports, the police commander was caught up in the onslaught and was also pelted with stones.

Meanwhile, the enraged road workers said that the police used excessive force when they stormed in and began firing gunshots and pepper spray at random, prompting retribution.
