Akufo-Addo is Married to a Second Wife Called Corruption – Bernard Mornah

Chairman of the People’s National Convention, Mr Bernard Mornah has identified corruption as a major problem that needs to be fixed for Ghana to develop.

Speaking on TV XYZ on Thursday, Mr Mornah said President Akufo-Addo has married to corruption as a second wife. He chided the president over his inability to protect the public purse as promised.

Indisputably, one of the fundamental determinants of the victory of President Akufo-Addo in 2016 was his promise to fight corruption rootlessly. Indeed, soon after his swearing in, he made it clear that there would be no room for those who have the intention of using his administration as a money-making opportunity.

The establishment of the Office the Special Prosecutor was expected to ensure that corruption became very costly to venture into. The passage of the Right to Information Bill into law was also met with a lot praises as many believed it would facilitate the fight against corruption.

However, the expectations of many Ghanaians have remained unmet. There were several allegations of corruption during the first term of President Akufo-Addo. In fact, the first Special Prosecutor, Mr Martin Amidu who was appointed to fight corruption described the president as “the mother serpent of corruption”. On several occasions after his resignation, Mr Amidu maintained that President Akufo-Addo was not committed to fighting corruption.

It was therefore not surprising that during the historic #FixTheCountry demonstration on August 4, 2021, corruption emerged as one of the major problems that many Ghanaians were demanding to be fixed.
