Mobile Money Operators Lauds Installation of CCTV Cameras

 

The installation of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras in strategic locations in parts of the Eastern Regional capital, Koforidua has been lauded by Assembly members and Mobile money agents.

The government of Ghana through the Ministry of National Security announced last year that some 10,000 CCTV cameras had been procured for installation nationwide to optimize security.

The video feeds will be monitored at “domain awareness centers” or “real-time crime centers for these CCTV cameras are located in Accra, Tamale, and Kumasi.

Surveillance cameras are one of the most ubiquitous and recognizable technologies being used globally to enhance security to deal with evolving sophisticated crimes.

The common crime cases recorded in Koforidua include murder, robbery, and burglary.

At least four taxi drivers have been killed and dumped in the bush this year by unknown assailants who absconded with their cars. Again, a mobile money vendor Solomon Arhin was shot dead on June 20th, 2021 by unknown assailants.

Residents including mobile money vendors in the Eastern Regional capital are excited over the erection of the CCTV cameras on the streets of Koforidua.

Assembly Member for Residential Electoral Area, Kate Valeria Bedjaben told Starr news, the population of Koforidua continues to grow exponentially due to migration and economic opportunities and as a result crime is increasing, therefore, hopefully, the installation of the CCTV cameras will help the security agencies rise to the occasion to help deal with the security challenges.

The Municipal Chief Executive for New Juaben South, Isaac Appaw Gyasi said, the installation of the CCTV cameras is part of the many interventions of President Akufo Addo led government to leverage technology to enhance security across the country.
