Pokuase foodstuff sellers takeover pedestrian walkway

Foodstuff sellers at Pokuase in the Ga North Municipality of the Greater Accra Region are gradually taking over the pedestrian walkway along a section of the much-publicized Pokuase Interchange.

Even though the Minister for Roads and Highway, Kwesi Amoako Atta has issued a warning to members of the Ga North Assembly to refrain from allocating portions of the land around the newly built road for people to mount structures along the highway.

One emerging development that the Assembly has slept over in the area since the interchange was inaugurated by His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was the issue of foodstuff sellers taking over the pedestrian walkway.

The area has become a hub for foodstuff sellers to ply their trade closer to the highway thereby edging pedestrians out on the walkway.

Beneath the footbridge for pedestrian crossing across the highway has become the hub for all manner of sellers to display their wares to catch the eyes of the commuting consumers using the footbridge.

The Ga-North Municipality under which Pokuase falls currently has no Municipal Chief Executive(MCE), since the untimely death of Madam Gertrude Ankrah.

The immediate past MCE died sometime last year and there had not been a  replacement to date.

A popular serial texter on radio and television and sympathetic to the governing New Patriotic Party on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, took to his Facebook page to vent his spleen on the current developments at the Pokuase interchange area.

Read what he wrote on his wall:’How do we fix the country with such a foolish attitude?

Must city authorities always tell us what’s right or wrong?

According to him, he will be fighting the market women come Friday, July 16, 2021.

He assured the public to wait for the showdown in the area.
