Kwabre East MP builds mechanized boreholes for two communities

Two communities, in the Kwabre East Municipality of the Ashanti Region — Ahodwo and Adeisina — have benefited from a water project each.

This is part of an initiative being spearheaded by Member of Parliament (MP) for the area to provide mechanized boreholes as source of potable water for residents in 13 communities within her constituency.

Each of the two mechanized boreholes commissioned at the Ahodwo and Adeisina communities cost GHc 35,000 with the funding coming from the MP’s common fund and donors.

The facilities comprise; 40 litres tank, a filter and a pumping machine.

Majority of boreholes within communities in the municipality are the manual type and most of them have broken down, making residents to trek for long distances in search of water.

Speaking to journalists after commissioning the projects, Kwabre East Member of Parliament (MP), Francisca Oteng Mensah said the provision of the boreholes was in fulfilment of a request residents from the beneficiary communities made during a town hall meeting after she was elected in 2016.

According to her, the provision of the facilities will also reduce the pressure on existing boreholes within the communities which residents heavily rely on as their source of water for drinking and for other domestic use.

The MP indicated that the provision of such facilities will also contribute to the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focusing on clean water and sanitation which the Government of Ghana is seeking to achieve by 2030.

“In all, we are doing 13 mechanized boreholes across the constituency. I have 46 communities and we are doing similar projects in 13 communities. We are hoping that in the other communities too, we can also do something meaningful there to impact on their lives”, she added.

Ms. Oteng Mensah appealed to community leaders and residents of the beneficiary communities to take good care of the facilities so as to derive long term benefits.

Chiefs, opinion leaders and residents in the beneficiary communities commended the MP and appealed for further intervention in the provision of other equally important social amenities.
