NABCO Trainees To Embark On Nationwide Demonstration For Unpaid Allowance

The Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) program was initiated by the government to provide jobs to unemployed post-secondary school graduates (universities, training colleges, etc.). Trainees of this flagship program are given stipends at the end of every month.

Although the program has kept many unemployed graduates in temporary employment, inconsistencies in the payment of monthly stipends have become an issue for all the trainees, some of whom still have arrears to be paid to them.

In a recent notice signed, the President of the Concerned NABCO Trainees Association (CoNABTA), they expressed their disappointment in the government as they demand their unpaid allowance.

“We the concerned NABCO trainees wish to express our disappointment in this current administration for ignoring us for the past 2 months without our hard-earned allowance. It will be recalled that before the election, our allowance was duly paid on time and sometimes before the end of the month.

It is now clear that these were all political gimmicks in wooing us into giving them a second term and leaving us to our faith since they got their second term. It will again be recalled that we were promised permanent engagement through career pathways which were filled online, up to date nothing has come out from it whilst we have about 7 months to end this program.

We wish to express our quenched disappointment in this government for treating us in this inhumane manner. we reiterate that, if we were their children will they have maltreated us this way,” the notice said.

It further states that they will be embarking on a demonstration against the government soon for the poor treatment they have received.
