Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Director of Health Madam Caroline Otoo said ‘Big men’ in Tarkwa have been sleeping with teenage girls who hitherto would have been having an affair with their teenagers.
She said though teenage pregnancy has drastically reduced from about 15.3 percent to 10 percent, in the municipality more than half of the pregnant girls who go the hospitals say they were impregnated by men who sometimes are trice of their age.
The health director was addressing stakeholders at the health sector in the municipality on an annual health report of the municipality.
I commend all the health workers for their commitment and promptly educating our girls on reproductive health the results is what we are seeing today but the big men here are impregnating our girls and we have to look at that too she said.
She said though the Covid might be one factor for the reduction, its largely due to the efforts of the health workers the teenagers are now glued to their books. We have made a lot of gains but more needs to be done so I will appeal to the men to let the young girls concentrate on their books.
