Refund all salaries paid you to the state – John Kumah to Daniel Domelevo

The New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Ejisu, John Kumah, has urged the embattled former Auditor-General, Daniel Domelevo, to refund to the state the salaries he received during the period he was supposed to have been on retirement.

Citing Domelevo’s SSNIT details, the Ejisu lawmaker said Domelevo needs to repay the state all the salaries he took for the extra one year he stayed as Auditor General.

President Akufo-Addo forced Domelevo into early retirement following a challenge to his nationality and retirement age by the Audit Service Board.

According to the Board, the revered anti-corruption crusader cannot resume work because he is not a Ghanaian and that he had also falsified his date of birth.

Domelevo, the Board said was born in 1960, and as a result, he was due for retirement on June 1, 2020.

Those details were, however, changed by Domelevo on October 25, 1992, when he completed and signed a SSNIT Change of Beneficiary Nomination form.

In the letter dated March 3, 2021, Akufo-Addo said he believed that Domelevo is retired hence cannot remain in office.

Speaking on Onua TV’s the ‘100 Degrees’ programme, Monday, March 29, and monitored by YEN.com.gh the Ejisu lawmaker said: “Mr. Domelevo set a certain standard in this country and he has principles. This is a man who went after people who he believed mismanaged the public purse and so one would have thought that he would do things differently.

“He is also on record to have said that some people fidget or tamper with their dates of birth when they are about to go on retirement to enable them to continue to stay in office

“And so I was surprised when he stayed in office for a year when he was due for retirement. I will ask him to refund the salaries he obtained illegally during the period he was supposed to have gone on retirement.”

In other news, the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been appointed to serve on the Parliamentary Service Board (PSB).

Asiedu Nketia was appointed by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban S.K. Bagbin, who is also the chairman of the PBS.

The Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, and a New Patriotic Party (NPP) member, Abraham Osei Aidoo, are also a part of the board.

Still, in Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has recanted his earlier statement that Nana Asante Bediatuo unilaterally wrote the letter slashing the budget estimates for the legislature and the judiciary.

There was a Ghs77million and over Ghs119million slash in the estimates presented by the Judiciary and Judicial Service and the Legislator respectively.

The presidency said the decision to slash the estimates was necessitated by the country’s current economic challenges.
