‘Dancehall Queen’, MzVee known in real life as Vera Hamenoo-Kpeda has told Amansan Krakye on Cape Coast-based Kastle FM that she won’t like to share her opinion on lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) rights debate due to the sensitive nature of the topic.
“I have my thoughts on the LGBT rights debate just that I don’t want to share it. I don’t want to share because it’s such a sensitive topic. I would keep my opinion to myself on this one.” She said
When asked on the Kastle Drive show her reasons why she’ll like to keep mute on a very pressing social issue of such magnitude, MzVee said her thoughts about LGBT rights if shared will bring her more haters than admirers.
“If you say what is not okay for some people listening, you’re bad. If you say another thing which is not good for other people listening, then you’re bad. So I really don’t have much to say actually and honestly speaking.”
Anti-gay outcry has forced Ghana’s first LGBT+ community centre to temporarily close to protect its staff and visitors three weeks after it opened, its founder said recently.
Church groups, politicians and anti-homosexual rights organizations have called on the government to shut down the centre, run by a local charity LGBT+ Rights Ghana, and arrest and prosecute those involved.
