Cocoa Purchasing Clerks threatens demo against COCOBOD and Government over locked up funds

The National Association of Ghana Cocoa Marketing Clerks (NAGCMC) has made a very passionate appeal to Government and Ghana COCOBOD to release funds to enable them pay Cocoa farmers for the sale of their cocoa produce.

Speaking at a press briefing at New Edubiase in the Adansi South District of the Ashanti Region, indicated that, they can no longer succumb to the pressure mounted on them by farmers at night as they knock on their doors in demanding of their money.

This, they noted as preventing them from making a good time with their wives in bed since there is always pressure on them.

Furtherance, they disclosed that some of the farmers has hinted to release their cocoa farms for gallamsey operations in order to get money solve their plight.

They, however, threatened to hit the street if COCOBOD and Government failed to release the money to the Local Buying Companies (LBCs) to enable them pay their farmers.

Meanwhile, the Financial Secretary of the Association, Mr Dadzie Kohn, said the Licensed Buying companies pay the clerks based on commission without any social Security as their work attract dangers such as robbery attacks which most of their colleagues have lost their lives through that.

He, therefore, appealed to government to consider paying them a monthly salary and insure them on Social Security and National Insurance Trust.

To conclude, the National Chairman of the National Association of Ghana Cocoa Marketing Clerks, Mr Andam Solomon said they cannot stay peacefully in their houses, they have resorted to hide and seek with cocoa farmers due to debts. thus, warning that, they will all move to jubilee house in the quest of the money to pay farmers latest by Friday.
