Trading under traffic light and Tollbooth are all illegal – Sofoline GPRTU Chairman reveales

Trading Under the traffic lights and the Tollbooths in Ghana has become part and parcel of many Ghanaians of which they believe, once businesses are transacted under these places everything is all right.

That not withstanding that, the police who are in charge of the enforcement of the laws of the country have also relaxed and have allowed businesses to flourish under the Traffic lights and the Tollbooths.

However, the truth of the matter is that, one could be imprisoned if he or she is prosecuted for doing unlawful business at these places.

“You have no right to sell under the Toll Booths and Traffic Lights, the laws are against it, the Police is aware”, Mr. Boamah- Sofoline GPRTU Chairman reveales.

*The L.I.2180*

Factually, L.I. 2180 Section 117 of the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 stipulates clearly that;
Trading on the road side,
(a) on or along the road side
(b) on a pedestrian walkway way
(c) within thirty metres of a railway crossing
(d)under road Traffic sign
(d) within….intersection or alongside the road including Tollbooth and the driver

As a result, the “Public must know all these regulations in order not to contravene the laws of the country”.
