It’s pure witchcraft for Mrs Rawlings to clap at her husband’s funeral – Manasseh Azure

Renowned investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni has lashed out at Mrs Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings for clapping during her husband’s funeral ceremony, saying that it’s “pure witchcraft” to have widows clap at funeral ceremonies of their deceased husbands since they are supposed to behave like persons without husbands.

Mrs Rawlings has been criticized by some persons for clapping during her husband’s final funeral rites held yesterday at the Independence Square, arguing that it is culturally inappropriate among Akans to do so.

For Manasseh, one does not need to be Akan to be concerned that a widow clapped during the funeral ceremony of her deceased husband.

“You don’t need to be an Akan to know that there’s everything wrong with that. Widows are double amputees so it’s pure witchcraft when they clap. It’s impossible to clap without hands so if this widow claps, we should be concerned,” he answered in response to a query by colleague journalist Komla Klutse seeking the cultural appropriateness or otherwise of Mrs Rawlings’s clapping during the funeral.

Meanwhile other have argued that her clapping was a spontaneous response as people paid tribute to her husband and so she can’t be blamed for such reflex responses.
