Man Jailed for 5 years over GH₵5 bread

According to A young man known as Joshua Ayittey, one evening bought bread worth GH₵5 to eat after he had closed from work at Nkurakan near Koforidua in the Eastern region of Ghana.

Joshua met his friends Richard Aku who’s a farmer, and Stephen on his way and as they walked together, Richard took Joshua’s bread and escaped with it.

Joshua and the other friend, Stephen went to Richard’s house to claim his bread but was no where to be found. While they stood at the house waiting, Richard appeared with a cutlass and started inflicting injuries on Joshua but Stephen managed to escape unhurt.

Fortunately, some youth in the area arrived on the scene early and arrested Richard and handed him over to the Police. Joshua who was injured was taken to the hospital, and has been treated and discharged.

Richard Aku admitted his fault at the Police station and was later sent to A Koforidua Circuit Court where he pleaded guilty, and has been sentenced to 5 years imprisonment.
