NPP’s Okada policy is much safer for us- Okada Riders

A lot of Okada riders have come out to support the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s proposal to give them loaned vehicles as, according to them, it’s a lot safer than the motorcycles they use.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia made this declaration during his Greater Accra Regional tour.

Additionally, some of these Okada riders believe the vehicle would be a much safer vessel than Okada, at the same time getting the same amount of money they are making from the business if they use vehicle.

Speaking to some Okada riders they said;

“Okada is good but car business is safe. That one accident don’t happen like with okada. With okada, car can knock you any time. But car will be different. If I get car, I want it,” Inusah Musah who has been an Okada rider for four years revealed.

“What the NDC said is good but when are they going to create different roads for us. If they want to say it’s legal without new roads, then it’s the same thing. The same risk. You can’t expand road at once,” Mensah Atta, another rider noted.

However, a few months ago, the former President and flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama said once he’s voted into power, his government will legalise the commercial operation of motorbikes.

Mr Mahama claimed the Okada business has become a means of sustenance for young people who are unemployed.

So while addressing the people during his tour of Kpando in the Volta Region, he stated that “our law says okada is illegal, but it is a reality it has come to stay and you can’t stop it. So, I say when we come into office, we legalise it but we will regulate it.”

Thus, anyone interested in pursuing an okada business will be trained and also educated to obey all needed traffic regulations.
