JM’s running mate supports rapist and must be punished for it, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party has said.
Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, indicted Prof. Jane Opoku-Agyemang on the Wontumi Morning Show, accusing her of supporting misfits like Salifu Maase, aka Mugabe; Alistair Tairo Nelson and Godwin Ako Gunn when they threatened to rape former Chief Justice, Georgina Woods.
According to the NPP Chairman popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, as a woman it was wrong for John Mahama’s running mate to support men who have vowed to rape another woman.
“Mugabe Maase, Alistair Tairo Nelson and Godwin Ako Gunn threatened to rape our former Chief Justice, Georgina Woods and we saw that Jane Opoku-Agyemang led a group to sign a petition to have them release from prison. She doesn’t have compassion for women who lives have been threatened. JM’s running mate supports rapist”, Chairman Wontumi said.
It would be recalled that prior to the 2016 general elections, Mugabe Maase, Ako-Gunn and Nelson, were sentenced to four months’ imprisonment each by the Supreme Court for scandalizing the court.
The court also fined GH¢10,000 each.
The trio, threatened the lives of judges of the Superior Courts, especially those who had heard the case on the credibility of the country’s electoral roll filed by Abu Ramadan and Evans Nimako against the Electoral Commission.
They were found guilty of scandalising the court, defying and lowering its authority and bringing its name into disrepute.
However, members of the NDC including Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, considered the courts’ decision as harsh.
The former Education Minister under Mr. John Mahama, signed a petition pleading with the former President to exercise presidential pardon for the three under Article 72 of the 1992 Constitution.
Former President Mahama acceded to the demands of the petitioners and, on August 26, 2016, remitted the convicts’ sentences from four months to one month, which they had served.
