Meet the company that print the Ghana Cedis

Isn’t it amazing how shameful we are as a nation, we are pathetic to the extent that we always let white people tell us how stupid we are.

I go to the market to pay money to get food. That is it right

You pay money to get education, that is it

You pay money to get something back, that has been the tradition since barter trade era.

How do you feel paying money, to get money? You pay 1$ to get one 10cedi note printed? How do you feel? Stupid?

That is what our leaders has been doing since independence. We take dollars and pounds, fly chartered planes to London and print currencies, pay huge pounds to the company, pay tax on that currencies that we printed to the UK government, then come back.

I always knew we print currencies in London, but wanted to know what goes in before making this post.

If Ghana wants to print 200million Ghana cedi notes, we pay big, real big in pounds to get that money printed. I am trying to find the common sense to understand this.

According to Emmanuel Aseidu-Mante, a retired Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, printing our currencies has been one of the greatest challenges of the bank. The printing is done in specialised security firms and to the BoG UK is where Ghana prints her currency.

The currencies are printed at a huge cost. The tax, and the the fees are all charged in pounds. We all know of the pound rate to the Cedis so please take care of the money since replacement of currencies is expensive than having a heavenly dinner.

Now the company that prints the Ghana Cedis is called, De La Rue, a security printing firm based in the United Kingdom. They print passports and other security items. They are responsible for the printing of our currency, and their charges are not easy. They are expensive, really expensive.

Don’t blame the BoG, they are mandated by law to find a capable security company that can print currencies, clean and secured so they found them and they are doing the job.

Blame the politicians, if they will invest billions into training and establishing a security printing firm, then Ghana will be back on track. We travel to Europe to beg for money then spend that money to print our currency, we tax the people to get money then change into pounds and dollars to print our Ghana cedi notes. We beg IMF to get money then spend almost half in printing our Ghana Cedi notes.

A lot of things goes into establishing a security firm to mandate security printings like money, passports, visas and other related documents but if we invest in it, train Ghanaians, get the facilities and establish one for us, we will be there.
