According some reports reaching our desk has it that,two rival chiefs and 24 others have been arrested by the police at Yong Dakpemyill near Tamale following last Sunday’s violent clashes between them which was reported by Ghanawish.com.
Northern Regional Crime Officer of the Ghana Police Service, Superintendent Otuo Acheampong who confirmed the arrest to the media, revealed that the suspects include Fuseini Chimsi and Mohammed Chimsi, who are both holding themselves as chief of Yong.
According to him, the suspects were arrested for causing unlawful damages to buildings and rioting with offensive weapons. All of them will be arraigned before the Tamale Circuit court this morning [March 31, 2020].
The two factions have been fighting over the Yong skin after one side rejected a successor chief selected by the Dakpema of Tamale Naa Fuseini Bawa they accused of taking bribe and favoring one side against the other.
Around 6pm, last Sunday the fighting started after the resisting faction tried to stop the construction of a new chief palace in the small village.
After an initial gun battle which went uninterrupted for almost an hour, the police was called in but the security left the community after few patrols and fighting resumed afterwards went on overnight.
