Madrid reportedly won’t force players and staff to take salary cut as result of coronavirus

  • Madrid have opted against cutting their players’ salaries, it’s believed.
  • The main reason is that the club are in a ‘stable financial situation’.
  • Los Blancos and Valladolid would be the only clubs in Spain who have opted against cutting salaries.

Real Madrid won’t ask their players and staff members to take a pay cut, as per Spanish outlet Deportes Cuatro.

The board believe that the club are in a very stable financial situation and they would be ready to face such circumstances without any consequences,

In the meantime, Espanyol and Atletico Madrid have joined Barcelona in announcing pay cuts for their players. Whilst, if the report is to be believed, Madrid and Real Valladolid will be the only ones who have, so far, opted against cutting their members’ salaries.

On Thursday night, March 26, Barcelona’s official website issued a statement that confirmed the club’s plan to cut pay in order to prevent the financial crisis amid the coronavirus pandemic which forced La Liga to suspend the games.

The extend of the cuts haven’t been revealed. What is known though is that the Catalans offered the squad a 70% pay cut which they rejected. The same report says the players will contact the Spanish Association of Footballers to lower the pay cuts to only 10%.

Barca had been unable to reach an agreement with their players, as they had been greatly scandalised by the idea as they inquire why no similar measures were applied to Madrid.
