There seems to be a silent revolution in the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) against Communications Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah.

The uprising is being staged by members of the party’s communications team as well as the party’s serial callers who are up in arms against the Minister. The serial callers are already on strike in the Ashanti Region over what they call neglect by the political authorities.

They have accused the Minister of deliberately stifling information needed to sell the government and the party to the people of Ghana ahead of the crucial 2016 general election which is barely six months away.

Speaking on Accra-based Atinka FM’s morning show on Tuesday, a member of the NDC’s communications team, Eric Ametor-Quarmyne, said Dr Omane Boamah was not on top of his briefs.

He therefore stressed the need for the Minister to sit up if the party wanted to win the upcoming general election scheduled for November 7, 2016, since Ghanaians must know the achievements of President Mahama and the NDC.

Ametor, who is on the payroll of the distressed National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) as a Consultant after going on retirement, recalled an occasion where according to him he literally had to ‘beg’ a member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) for a copy of a contract between the Government of Ghana (GoG) and the Ameri Group, before he could get the required information to defend the government.

Communicators of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) are accusing government ministers of refusing to give them useful information that will aid them propagate the good works of the John Mahama-led administration.

Ashanti Serial Callers

Ametor’s concerns come on the heels of similar agitations by another arm of the NDC’s communications team, the Media Monitoring Wing and Media Monitors, mostly made up of serial callers and texters to radio and television programmes, who also claim they are unable to communicate to the grassroots of the party to in turn disseminate information to the people.

The Media Monitoring Wing of the party in the Ashanti Region reached an agreement on Monday not to appear or contribute to discussions in any form on radio and television because of lack of information.

They said the leadership of the party had also not been forthcoming with information to enable them defend the good works of President John Mahama.

“We, the members of the above mentioned association, wish to inform the general public that with effect from Monday, 16th May, 2016, we will suspend calling and texting messages to both radio and TV programmes in support of the NDC party and government. This tough decision was taken on Sunday, 15th May, 2016 at our general meeting,” they said in a statement.

They therefore noted that “until we meet the leadership of the NDC party, the decision will not be changed”, warning, “If by Wednesday we do not hear anything from the party leadership, a different action will be taken.”

Ametor-Quarmyne has since declared his support for the serial callers and blamed the development on Communications Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah.
