COVID-19: Patient in Isolation Praises Health Staff For Care And Professionalism

One of Ghana’s COVID-19 patients currently in isolation has praised nurses and other staff of the Infectious Disease Isolation Center for show of care and professionalism in the discharge of their duties to patients at the holding centre.

Only identified as Case #7, the 35 years old who is believed to have contracted the virus during his trip and stay in France has said he feels better and deeply cared for in isolation though it is a “special prison”.

In an interview on Joynews TV monitored by Ghanawish.com Case #7 revealed that the decision to get tested for the virus became necessary following some mild cough he suffered upon his return from an official trip to Paris, France.

Describing the isolation as a difficult experience because his right of movement has been taken away from him, he admitted that it was the best action to be taken in the interest of the safety of his family and people of Ghana.

“When you come, you are not allowed to see your fellow brother or sister. You are just walked straight into your room by the experts and they tell you what exactly is expected of you and how you can comport yourself in the centre. You are also assigned a nurse who is able to take care of you and provide everything you need be it food or water. They come and do room servicing for us like cleaning and everything” he narrated.

While describing the state of the room as comfortable with installed medical equipment to rescue patients only in case of emergency, he applauded nurses and other staff for their level of care and professionalism through counselling and encouragement each time they visit his room which is locked from outside.

“They (nurses) come in well protected. Honestly let me say that the staff we have are very amazing, they treat us like human beings and they treat us like fellow Ghanaians. They don’t treat us like strangers, but they come and try to give you some sense of support by telling you that you are going to be through with this” he added.

The patient is among the 16 persons who tested positive for the coronavirus cases so far in Ghana as of 20th March, 2020.

His test results came out positive on Tuesday, March 17 following a voluntary test he took after self isolation upon his return to Ghana on the advice of his employers.
