COVID-19: Will Bring About Food Shortage, Inflation And Others In Ghana – Odike

The Founder and leader of the United Progressive Party (UPP)Mr. Akwasi Addai Odike has admonished government to put stringent measures in place to check possible shortage of goods and services in Ghana following banning of all public gatherings including conferences, workshops, funerals, festivals, political rallies and church activities and related events.

“We are likely to have shortage of food,  scarcity of some basic necessities needed and high prices of goods and services”, he observed during a panel discussion monitored by Ghanawish,com on Kumasi-based Nhyira FM morning show hosted by Aduanaba Kofi Asante Ennin.

According to Businessman cum politician , the decision of President Akufo-Addo to check COVID-19 is best for Ghana but it negative implementation should not be overlooked at.

“As a country, we should prepare make sure that many of the economic benefits of our people. We can also take advantage of the situation to boost our local businesses”, Mr. Akwasi Addai Odike told listeners.

President Akufo Addo has urged Ghanaians to stop the customary practice of shaking hands to avoid the spread of the deadly Coronavirus (Covid -19) disease which has so far killed several hundreds of people across the country.

Meanwhile, the President has directed management of schools in the country to shut down effective Monday, March 16, 2020, until further notice.

The President gave the order when he addressed the nation on Sunday.

He said, “All universities, Senior High Schools and basic schools i.e. public and private schools, will be closed Monday, March 16, 2020, till further notice. The Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Ministry of Communication, has been tasked to roll out distance learning programmes.”

The President added that “BECE and WASSCE candidates will be allowed to attend school to prepare for their examinations but with prescribed social distancing protocols.”
