The bus was carrying approximately 40 passengers from Los Angeles to the San Francisco area when a gunman on board opened fire on Interstate Five.
Police said the shooter was taken into custody, although they have not yet identified the man or determined a motive.
The bus had departed from Los Angeles about an hour prior to the shooting. Afterward, the bus driver was reportedly able to get the shooter off the bus before pulling off the highway at the
nearest exit in Grapevine, California. As the bus pulled into a Valero gas station, the body of the person killed was still on board, according to NBC.
The five victims who were wounded suffered injuries ranging from moderate to serious.
One was flown to a nearby hospital.
