Ghana Meteorological Agency Cautions Ghanaians About Harmattan In The Coming Days.

The Ghana Meteorological Agency has cautioned the public to brace themselves for a more intense harmattan in the coming days.

According to the Agency, the dry weather being experienced across the country currently will intensify as the season unfolds and has therefore urged the country to be prepared for a more “acute” harmattan season.

Speaking in an interview with Accra, the Head of Central Analysis and Forecasting Department of the Ghana Meteorological Agency, Felicity Ahafianyo stressed that “it (the dry season) will re-intensify in the sub-region.”

The meteorologist, however, indicated that the current intensity of the season will relax a bit going forward before the intense season will be ushered in.

In relation to the poor visibility that comes along with the harmattan, she advised drivers and other road users to be very meticulous on the road in order to reduce the likely occurrence of accidents.

In addition, Madam Ahafianyo admonished farmers and hunters who will set fire as part of their activities to exercise caution and put preventive measures in place before fire is set anywhere.

“Every year, we experience the harmattan in Ghana, not only in Ghana but also in other West African countries. Ghana’s dry season delayed a bit but we have just started experiencing it in the whole country. The harmattan will continue to be with us till February but as to its high or low intensity, it will relax a bit and later, it will re-intensify in the sub-region,” Mad Ahafianyo explained.

She added that “we have even realized that visibility is very poor during the day time and also during the night and then the early hours of the day. It is advisable to that if you are driving, you drive with a manageable speed because of the visibility. The drivers that use the road especially at dawn should do so with caution.
