Kwesi Appiah Sacked as Black Stars coach, CK Akonnor replaces

Former Asante Kotoko boss, Charles Kwablan Akonnor has been appointed as new Black Stars coach on a temporary basis.

Akonnor will replace Kwesi Appiah, who was sacked on Thursday night.

While the GFA have yet to make the appointment official, MyNewsGh sources reveal that the former Ghana and Wolfsburg captain has been informed of his new role.

Akonnor will begin preparation towards Ghana’s next international game, a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying game in March.

Akonnor was appointed in October as assistant to Kwesi Appiah and helped the team to two victories against South Africa and Sao Tome in an AFCON 2021 qualifying series.

He was last in charge of Kumasi Asante Kotoko before being let go after a year in charge.
