NDC begs Okyenhene over Zu’s ‘drinking water with animals’ comment

Senior members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have visited the palace of Okyenhene Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin in the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area to perform the necessary rites to appease the paramount chief and his subjects over demeaning comments made against them by the party’s Ashanti Regional Secretary, Kwame Zu.

The six-member delegation was led by National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, with party members such as Ambassador Victor Smith and Betty Mould Iddrisu being part of the team.

Mr Zu had alleged that but for the intervention of former President John Mahama, the Okyenhene would have been drinking water with animals.

Among other things, a sheep was slaughtered and a libation poured at the palace as part of pacification rituals required for offering an apology to the Okyenhene.

Even though the Ashanti Regional branch of the NDC had earlier offered an apology, it was not accepted and a ban was placed on the party’s political activities within the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area.

The Okyenhene’s Council, however, accepted the Thursday, 5 December 2019 apology and lifted the ban.

The Council, through the linguist, Osagyefo Kwadwo Antwi-Boasiako, asked Mr Zu and members of the NDC to desist from repeating such actions against traditional authorities.

The party promised to ensure that they strengthen their relationship with traditional authorities.
