Mr. Jacob Partey, father of Black Stars player Thomas Partey has promised to settle the Ghs2,400 court fine slapped on the infamous pitch invader, Awal Suleman.
During Ghana’s 2021 Afcon qualifier against South Africa at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium, Mr Suleman eluded security and ran onto the pitch.
His reason for going on the playing field was to take a selfie with Thomas Partey., who had scored the second goal of the game.
He was arrested and subsequently detained at the University of Cape Coast Stadium where he was arraigned.
Mr. Suleman was found guilty on two counts thus disturbing public peace and resisting arrest.
He was fined a sum of GH 2,400 by a Cape Coast Circuit ‘B’ court or in default serve a three-month jail sentence.
He was also made to sign a bond of good behavior.
Presiding Judge, Dorinda Arthur Smith, said she took his guilty plea and apologies from some Black Star players into consideration before delivering her verdict.
Commenting on the development in an interview with Kingdom FM in Accra, Mr Jacob Partey confirmed the family has decided to lift the burden of the fine on the 25-year-old man.
“We have decided to pay off the fine for Awal. There are many players in the Black Stars team but since he got into trouble trying to show his love for my son, although illegally we have to come in help out. So I will pay the money and Partey himself will be notified”
Meanwhile, Awal Suleman has since met his idol, Thomas Partey. He was gifted with a signed Black Stars jersey.
