Some gospel songs of today are infuriating – McAbraham

Veteran Gospel Musician and music Icon, Reverend McAbraham Sarpong has advised today’s gospel musician to engage the Bible more so they can lyrically enrich their music content.

In an exclusive interview on Kumasi-based Pure FM with marketing and media giant, Hammer Nti on #HammerTime (an entertainment show) monitored by MyNewsGh.com, the ‘Mmebusem’ hitmaker said, although the rhythm of Gospel music hasn’t changed in the past years, many of the contemporary musicians do not enrich their songs with Bible messages making it difficult for people to patronize the current gospel music and help the industry grow as well.

He further remarked that, their songs are more of sampled street opinion and not what the Bible says.

“Hammer, I think today’s Gospel musicians are doing well in terms of keeping the rhythm high but the only problem I have with them is, their contents are not lyrically rich to span generation. I think they are following the trend and this trend doesn’t last.”

I don’t see quality in their composition. It’s like many of the musicians do not engage the Bible more but sample street opinion. Gospel music must carry the message of Christ that can win and transform souls.” He said.

Asked if he had a favorite, he said “they all see me as father and so I can’t choose one over the other but I know as my children, they will heed to my advice.”

Reverend McAbraham Sarpong known in showbiz as McAbraham has over 16 albums to his credit with hit songs like Chacha, Akyiwade, Ebeye yie among many others. He is now the head Pastor of Crystal Life Chapel and is now concentrating on his pastoral duties.
