‘Ekiki Me’ hitmaker Wisa is battling a prosecution for ‘gross public indecency’; yet he sees it fit to indulge in actions that could jeopardise his freedom.
‘Under fire’ Hiplife artiste Eugene Ashie popularly known as Wisa Greid, was on Monday January 25 left to his own fate as he defended himself in court after his lawyer deserted him.
Accra-based Kasapa FM reported that Lawyer Jerry Avenorgbor who defended the musician in his first appearance in court last month, has washed his hands off the budding musician’s case because he has failed to pay legal fees.
Wisa Gried is standing trial for gross indecent exposure, a charge he has plead not guilty to.
He did probably the weirdest act by a Ghanaian performing artist when midway through his performance at the December 2 Remember concert last year, he pulled out his manhood on stage and thrusted it behind a lady dancer.
His Lawyer has stated that the musician displayed a fake penis on stage while performing at the event. He argued that what the artiste did was for the “beauty of entertainment” but the public failed to appreciate that.
Wisa’s disgraceful act was greeted with public condemnation by a large section of the citizenry who were utterly shocked by his actions. He, as well as his management team immediately apologized to Ghanaians for his indecent behaviour.
The ‘Ekiki me’ hit singer was arrested by the police and questioned over the weekend for showing his penis at the event, following which he was granted bail.
The prosecution, Chief Inspector Edward Agyei Odame stated that Wisa in his caution statement admitted to committing the act and therefore it comes as a surprise his denial now.
The prosecution prayed the court to allow the video to be shown in court on the next sitting date, February 5th, a request that the Judge, Abena Agyin Doku granted.
What will pan out to be an interesting angle of the case is how Wisa will prove and convince the court that what was seen to be his penis was indeed fake, especially now that his lawyer who made the ‘fake penis’ claim has deserted him.
