An Accra High Court presided over by Justice Kwaku Ackaah-Boafo, on Tuesday, dismissed a motion filed by Dr. Zanetor Rawlings challenging the court’s jurisdiction in a case where she has been sued over her eligibility to contest the Klottey Korle NDC parliamentary primary.

Dr Zanetor’s lawyers had argued such constitutional matters be left with the Supreme Court to interpret.

But the court ruled today that it has jurisdiction and therefore threw out the motion.

The High Court also awarded 2,500 Cedis cost against Dr zanetor for wasting the court’s time.

Incumbent Klottey Korle MP Nii Armah Ashitey, who was defeated in the NDC primary and one Nii John Coleman (who also lost in the primary) filed a suit praying the Court to prevent Dr. Rawlings from holding herself out as Parliamentary Candidate-elect for the constituency on the ticket of the NDC.

In the suit, the two challenged the propriety of the daughter of former President Rawlings to contest the seat on the ticket of the NDC since she is not a registered voter.

But Nii John Coleman, a couple of weeks ago, pulled out of the case leaving Ashietey to fight alone.

The Electoral Commission has confirmed that Dr. Rawlings is not a registered voter in Ghana.

However, lawyers for Dr. Zanetor argued that the entire action brought before the court is premature and prayed the court to dismiss the suit by Mr. Ashietey.

However, Justice Ackaah-Boafo in his ruling Tuesday dismissed the application by Dr. Rawlings describing it as a good poem that makes a bad read.
