It is time to involve kids in decisions making if the blood of the ancient fathers in the spirit of community development still flows within the veins of the young ones.
A group of children aged 5 – 11 years were spotted in Kokono, a suburb of Akosombo in the Eastern region of Ghana busily constructing a footbridge for the whole community.
These little ones whose names are Mawuse Adoboli, Bless Bissi, Mawutor Adoboli, Richmond Bissi, Emmanuel and Hakkim came together without anyone tasking them to fix a long standing problem in their community using bamboo stakes and neem trees to construct footbridge.
Over 5 years recurrent rains and waters from the hills all find their way to Jordan, a small stream that resident use for cooking and washing. The recurrent rains cause the pathway to flood and very difficult to access for both the young ones and adult.
Though the community is not deficient in energetic youthful vessels, none of them took the initiative to solve this problem to enhance community. They rather swerve by creating different paths along the streams on top of the grasses.
Asking the children on why they decided to take up this responsibility, they were proud to say “We cannot let this problem persist without finding solution.”
They are students of Kokono primary school, Unique Academy and SDA Academy all within the Akosombo Township.
