The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wuntumi) has said he controls most of the executives of the main opposition Nation3al Democratic Congress (NDC) and even Mr. Mahama, their Flagbearer.
He explained that he sometimes influences the decisions the biggest opposition party takes through the executives he has in his pocket.
Chairman Wontumi, for instance, claimed he is the one who advised the NDC to ensure that the incumbent Member of Parliament for Asawase, Muntaka Mubarak, goes unopposed in the NDC’s parliamentary elections, as part of the party’s preparations for the 2020 general polls.
The party recently disqualified one Mr Masawudu Mubarick from contesting against the lawmaker, paving the way for Mr Mubarak to be declared the automatic candidate for the Asawase constituency for the 2020 polls.
Speaking on Nyira FM in Kumasi, show on Wednesday, 4 September 2019, Chairman Wontumi said: “I won’t brag over this but the reality is that I control most of the executives of the NDC; some of them are on my payroll. And, so, I determine how they run their affairs in the party.”
“In the case of the Asawase primaries, I told them to ensure that Muntaka goes unopposed and they have acted in accordance with my order.”
Meanwhile, there have been some rumours in the NDC party that, indeed Chairman Wuntumi control the party executives.
Ashanti Regional NDC Women Organizer Madam Gloria Huze said on Nhyira FM on Sepetember 4 2019 which was monitored by GHANAWISH.COM that Mr Yamoah Ponko, Mr Joseph Yamin and his team headed by Appiah Stadium are the people Chairman Wontumi is influencing with money.
She challenged them to come out and swear with ‘Antoa Nyamaa’ if they have never taken money from Wontumi.
She said the three executives are the very people tearing and sabotaging NDC and President Mahama chances of winning general election 2020.
She stated “I’m given Joseph Yamin, Yamoah Ponko and Appiah Stadium 24 hours to come out and tell the public that they are the very people in Wontumi’s pocket. If they don’t come out, I will make sure they suspended”.
The woman organizer was responding to Yamoah Ponko’ s comments he made on Pure Morning Drive in Kumasi on Monday 2 September 2019 that, “I’m worried our people see Wontumi as a joke, they have no idea of what the young rich guy can do with money. He Wontumi facilitated the removal of Kojo Bonsu in KMA and also made sure the assembly members of Ejisu Juaben oppose my second appointment as Municipal Chief Executive by former president John Dramani Mahama. Must we joke with such a person” he asked?
The statement Yamoah Ponko made sparked the NDC woman organizer to ask the 3 executives to plainly confess by swearing an oath that they are those in Wontumi’s pocket and not all NDC party executives.
