Although Christians have been taught through their Holy Book (the Bible) that divorce is forbidden, Kumawood actress Portia Asare was so happy when her first marriage collapsed and finally pulled through with the divorce.
Portia married Rev John Wilberforce Aidoo in a colourful ceremony in 2015, but the marriage collapsed in the 5th year.
“I was happy with myself and God after the collapse of my first marriage,” she said in a recent interview with TV host and YouTuber Deloris Frimpong Manso (Delay).
She explained that she was unhappy in marriage, and divorce was the only option.
“My former husband was neither violent nor a womanizer, but we just didn’t click. I did what a wife would do to make her husband happy. My direction was different from his, so we could not make things work.
“I was married to him for five years but separated for two years, and we finally called it off.”
Portia sheds more light on why she celebrated her divorce.
“I have a strong conviction about certain decisions I make in life, and this (divorce) was one of it. I celebrated it in my quiet time,” she said. “My heart was at peace; my soul was rested”.
Three years after the divorce, Portia Asare remarried in a private ceremony on July 2, 2021, in Accra.
