Families who owe the land on which a mast is stationed have complained of money cheat involving the Queen-mother of Sikaman and other inhabitants of the village of Adansi Sikaman Anokyekrom, a suburb of Akrofuom District in the Ashanti Region.
In an interview with Nana Yaa who spoke on behalf of the family said that, the queen mother of Sikaman summoned her some time ago to inform her of MTN’s intentions to raise a mast on their family land, but unfortunately, the family were neglected without being consulted whatsoever and to make it worse, no part in the agreement signed has a name of a single member of their family.
“Nana Achiaa summoned me some time ago to inform me of MTN intention to raise a mast on our land since it was deemed the best place, but we were not consulted neither did they included our names in the agreement,” the family spokesperson revealed.
“I was only asked to sign on the final day, but I told them I can’t sign owing to the fact that I didn’t go to school and so the assemblyman was asked to sign for me”.
“The representative of MTN then told Nana Hemaa that she will be paid sixteen thousand cedis (16,000) to an account she provided, I raised an alarm asking why the queen mother knowing very well the land is ours didn’t include any of our names in the agreement,” Nana Yaa said.
Nana Yaa told that the family on whose property the mast is was only given 4,000 cedis out of the 16,000 as compensation whiles Nana Achiaa was given the same. The Abusuapanin of Sikaman Anokyekrom whose farm the vehicle transporting MTN equipment passed was also given 4,000 with the other 4,000 being used as miscellaneous.
She called on relevant authorities to do the needful by inserting their names into the agreement for posterity sake. A brother of Nana Yaa also warned that they’ll be forced to pull down the mast if nothing tangible is done in the coming days.
Sikaman Anokyekrom, Assemblyman, Yaw Baah also called for cooler heads so they can deliberate on the issue to come to a better conclusion.
