We are going for revenge against Uruguay – Mohammed Salisu

Mohammed Salisu

Mohammad Salisu, a defender for the Black Stars, has said that when Ghana faces Uruguay in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, they would be out for blood.

When Ghana was eliminated from the 2010 World Cup in the quarterfinals, it was a devastating blow to the whole African continent.

Late in extra time, the Black Stars were awarded a penalty for a handball by Luis Suarez, and Asamoah Gyan missed the next chance, leading to the eventual loss for the Black Stars in penalty shootouts.

Salisu is seeking for retribution against Uruguay ahead of the Black Stars’ second group stage matchup at 2019 World Cup.

“Ghanaians are looking forward to that game because we are going for revenge,” he told Southampton’s media team.

“I’m also looking forward to the game and I need to be with my country and fight for my country. I think I’m part of the revenge.

“When we played against Uruguay at the [2010] World Cup, Ghana was the best team African team at that World Cup and that memory inspires me.”

The Black Stars before playing their first game in Qatar will come up against Switzerland in a friendly game on Thursday, November 17.
