There have been increment in utility tarrifs as well as taxes on communication services which takes effect today.
Consumers will be paying more for such services starting today as announced earlier.
The Public Utility Regulatory Commission(PURC) has increased water tariff by 2.2% while electricity is up by 5.9%.
The increment in utility comes just after three months the PURC increased water and electricity tarrifs.
According to a statement signed by the Executive Secretary of PURC, Mrs Mami Dufie the increment is in line with the commission’s Automatic Adjustment Formula which considers factors such as the Ghana-US dollar exchange rate, inflation, price of Crude oil and natural gas.
“This increment it says is in line with the Commission’s Automatic Adjustment Formula, which considered factors such as the Ghana-US dollar exchange rate, inflation, price of Crude Oil and Natural Gas and the generation mix (hydro and thermal).” A statement released by PURC said.
Other factors were power purchase cost, demand forecast, electricity cost and fuel mix.
It could be recalled that the PURC in June 2019 announced an 11% increase in electricity tariff which took effect on 1st July 2019.
The statement said the Commission would embark on an effective Tariff monitoring programme aimed at providing the end-user improved quality of service.
