VIDEO: Ghanaian Church sings a “Dumsor” song as message to the Government [Watch]

In case you missed it, a “dumsor” song went viral on WhatsApp and other social media in Ghana. The song was even aired on GH-One TV’s Show as part of the gimmicks for that morning where, doubtless, it reached more ears than its humble composer would have anticipated on such short notice.

According to our research, the song was recorded few weeks ago year, during the an edition of choir’s annual “Republic Concert”. The spirit concert is to promote peace, foster unity and address current issues of national concern, using choral music as the medium of communication.

We were struck by this vision, as it isn’t the most prevalent in the current climate of music in the country.  Following the focus of the “Republic Concert”,  is about collecting patriotic and nationalist music, as well as arrangements of folk tunes. It was during this period that we decided to use his art to send a message to the government.

Among the several,  “Dumsor” song was meant to highlight some of the difficulties citizens faced as a result of the erratic power cuts.

The premature exposure of his plea to the government to find a permanent solution to this crises hasn’t upset his plans though: we expect the video to be produced and released when it is ready.
