Unregistered SIM Card Holders Will Find Out Their Fate Next Week

The planned operation to disable all unregistered SIM cards has been suspended.

The Ministry of Communication and Digitalization will have time to revise the schedule for the intended exercise as a result.

A new date and the associated procedures will reportedly be announced early next week, but the punitive measures that were in place earlier in September will reportedly be reinstated.

The NCA met with all telecoms on Friday morning to settle the details before to the deadline for disabling unregistered SIMs on September 30, 2022. They indicated that they were ready to continue the drill.

The end of the year [2022] is the deadline for people who have finished stage one of their registration (connected their Ghana Cards to their SIM cards via *404#.

Those without registered SIM cards won’t be allowed to access data services, make calls, or receive calls, among other things.

According to the report, such customers would be able to dial *404# to start the registration process and will also get their special codes by SMS.

It stated that customers would be granted more time to finish customer registration for Telesol, Busy, and Surfline users who are part of the Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) providers group.

It confirmed that the roadmap had been delivered post-deadline by the sector regulator for final approval before implementation to the Ministry of Communications and Digitalization, the agency in charge of creating policy.
