Trotro fare increases 10%

The Ghana Private Road and Transport Union have increased public transport fares by 10 per cent following the recent hike in fuel prices.

The new fares take effect from 16 September 2019.

The fares cover intra-city (Trotro), intercity (long distance) and shared taxis.

According to the union, the hike has become necessary to enable its members stay afloat.

Prices of petroleum products went up by some 3.7 per cent on Monday, 2 September 2019 after the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) directed Oil Marketing Companies to begin applying the revised Energy Sector Levies.

The GPRTU has requested the public to cooperate with drivers for the smooth implementation of the new fares.
